I sat down and flicked through the tv channels until I stumbled across the horse racing . This is unusual , the horse racing is something you don’t see over here .Ok , you don’t see much sport outside of LA , full stop . The Preakness stakes , the 2nd leg of the famed triple crown ( Kentucky derby , Preakness stakes , Belmont stakes ) was on telecast . This is the sort of stuff you miss , the Spring Carnival and the general love of racing and heading to the races for the day is not something that is done here . Getting dressed up and celebrating with friends with the races just being an excuse to party is alien . In fact I wouldn’t know where to go to have a bet without going on line .Its not the place for sitting down and having a beer whilst betting on the naggs , betting money would be used for tipping the bar staff . So , I sat down and watched the worlds best horses ( yes , the worlds best is often used in American sports ) do there thing in the gloomy fog . I was ready big time to report on how bad the commentary and presentation was and how I wasn’t impressed with horses running on the dirt ( mud ) , but I was wrong . The lead up , the national Anthem ( the best anthem , haka aside ) and the horse favoured to take the 2nd leg , with a flamboyant only in America trainer quickly roped me in . And then the race as a spectacle left me with goosebumps all over , with the mighty ‘Justify ‘ , a natural leader being taken on all the way , hanging on as the field swamped . I loved it , but there was no one to tell . They’re not into it . Betting ? ..,.. You mean the stock market ? … “No , the horse races “. Oh , where do they race ?” Never mind . No Melbourne cup bbqs here .
