Moving on

Camping

Well hound dawgs , it’s been a while . The weather has cooled a bit .We had rain today , proper rain for a couple of hours . It felt like it signalled a change . The slow grinding months preceding have fallen away . It’s time to move on .

Frankie

7 months prior we picked up a little dog on loan . We were to look after her until a flight to Australia could be found , so as she could be reunited with her owner . Her owner had left LA and subsequently got stranded in her native Melbourne as Covid hit . We were the 3 rd de facto parents of the little girl . She was a terribly timid and anxious dog . Small , fragile and suffering the effects of a previous life in a Korean puppy farm , she was further damaged with the handover of different masters . We took it upon ourselves to rehabilitate her . She’s bigger , has a shiny coat , she’s more robust and shows plenty of personality. She’s vetted , de- flead , exercised , socialised as best we could ( she needs a lot more ) and is very much at home . She is Emma’s shadow and literally stays at her feet at every turn . Emma loves it , she’s never had a pet like Frankie . Frankie worships her . The little girl leaves on November 9 . She’ll go through 3 weeks of gruelling travel and quarantine that’ll see her transit to a local compound for 4 days before flying to Sydney , via Singapore . Staying in Sydney for 7 days and then finally Melbourne . . Emma will cry her eyes out when she leaves in her little crate . Frankie knows somethings up , the crate is a clue . Shes been in one before ; it brought her to the States . She’s been a little quiet since it arrived . We’ll be pretty sad but gee we turned her around . Good luck little girl .

I laughed when I saw this . It made more sense a couple of days later .

The surf has been a constant . We’ve had waves throughout the summer , it doesn’t normally happen like this . It’s been the transformation of Tex . He’s had his troubles . He’ll have more to come but the bug has bitten . He surfs almost every day . it’s a healthy habit . If you are out in the water enough you eventually find a new love ,and you see things . The Sunday just gone saw the best waves in nearly a year . It was eerily glassy , the water a little colder . Dolphins were everywhere and they were so close to the surfers . They passed by with their dorsal fins close enough to touch . It was amazing . There were so many . The serenity broke when a raised voice wailed …“ Hay , there’s a big shark just here !”…..WTF . A stand up paddle boarder 10 meters beyond Tex and I points at the water . It’s grey , the water dark , surfers spread every 20 meters or so . At 1st I don’t believe him . It’s easy to take fright at a sudden surge of water , a sight of a dorsal fin and then that all too familiar shape of a dolphin . Text yells out “ You sure it’s not a dolphin ? “. The old guy shakes his head .” No , it’s a 10 foot great white . There’s no mistaking it . It’s starting to swim back out . “ Tex panicked , yelled out to fellow surfers that a large shark was just off the back of the waves . It was the 2 nd time a shark was spotted in the surf in our company in the last 18 months . Last time I saw it , along with 2 other guys . It meandered past us 20 meters further out with swimmers a further 50 meters beyond it . They don’t seem to be interested . As much as I dislike a stand up paddle boarder , this guy acts as a sentry . We shift in a little closer to shore for a few minutes but eventually we are back out there . Waves like these don’t happen too often in LA .We would stay out for another 2 hours . The shark did wonder back in a bit further down the line , but thankfully nothing occurred. The dolphins moved on soon after the shark left , I think that’s more coincidence than the old fable about dolphins protecting people . It was a beautiful day and I fortunately didn’t see a shark .

Out the front of our place

Well dawgs , it’s good to see Australia finally moving forward . We constantly get asked at ‘how crazy Australia is ?’ They hate any perceived government control over here . The view of the “ lucky country “ has changed dramatically . Most people over here think Australia has become a dystopian society . I laugh it off . “ We’ve just gone a bit too far “ , I reply . Although I agree with a lot of the Aussie response , it’s time to move forward . We know what our options are and we can be confident that things look better . On that note we are still pretty much stuck if we want to get back to Australia . Flights starting at $4500 one way will see us stay put for a while yet . Don’t worry , we’ve had the best of it . No lockdowns here , free to travel domestically , dining and sporting events too . We’ve even camped and I hate fucking camping . The wheels are shifting dawgs . Little Frankie is heading to Melbourne , hopefully we’ll get our turn soon enough . Happy Halloween hound dogs

After a 2 year absence, it’s time to dress up
